What a wet and windy week. It was worth extending the deadline for the shoeboxes as we now have a full table full. With the recent wet weather the front of the church was once again flooded but at least it was nowhere near as high as the water was back in June. Mike Crockett did manage to get here today but virtually every road entrance to the village is either a passable flood or is actually closed and only navigable by boat! 60 shoeboxes were sent off the distribution centre in Birmingham and this year they are destined for the Ukraine. We hope the little children enjoy themselves this Christmas.
We already have quite a number of shoeboxes in the chapel ready to be sent off to Operation Christmas Child HQ. The final deadline is this coming Sunday - which has been a small extension. Todays multimedia service was finished with tea and cakes which have been provided by Grace as part of her Duke of Edinburghs award. This makes a tasty finish to the services which we all enjoy with our post service tea.
Find out more about shoeboxes here We were all very sorry to hear that Mollie Shaw died on the 9th November. Rev. Derek Shaw only retired in August from our Church and it was a great shock to learn of his sad loss. All of us will be praying for Derek, his daughter and son.
A good number of people wade through the fallen leaves this month to attend the coffee morning which raised money for the Guide Dogs for the blind. We raised £106 pounds for this charity which many of you will know is now rebranded as Guide Dogs to reflects its work with both partially and blind sighted people . Gill and Alan Overton brought their brood bitch "Wispa" down for us to admire . She has already had one lot of puppies and more will hopefully be trained as Guide dogs.
