The team put up our annual nativity display beating the weather and the rain which held off long enough to allow it to be dry even if a bit windy! Many thanks to the team again who are getting quicker each year! Our traditional Nativity display has now gone up for all to see including the passing traffic. The church has also been decorated ready for the Christmas services - please see our home page for times and dates Fiona led our worship but the service was dramatized by some of the open the book team who presented Jesus and the Palm Sunday story complete with a donkey. Fortunately the group do not work with animals so the beast was well behaved! A full dress rehearsal of the play due to be performed at next weeks carol service was undertaken after the church service today. if this does not make you want to come and join us...
The lambs and donkey have finally reached the nativity scene along with the all important crib. These were being used by the "read the book" group who take bible stories into schools this week hence their delayed appearance. The scene is now complete ready for the carols to be sung around it this coming Tuesday.
Whitacre Chapel has created especially for Easter week; a display of the risen Lord appearing to Mary Magdalene in the Garden of Gethsemane. The round stone stone has been rolled away from the tomb with the reminder in the background of the victory over death on the Crosses of Golgotha on the porch roof. Many thanks are due to Anne and Mike for the tomb, Carol for the characters, Arthur for the flowers and Pauline and Phil for helping setting up such a lovely display. Do make sure that you admire the diorama over the Easter festive period. A number of us have worked hard today to create the stand and then arrange the scene itself. Still got to be illuminated so it can be seen at night but its up and ready for viewing. A new poster has been erected to publicly remind people that it is to hundred years since we were founded in the village.
Our volunteers put this up with all the necessary social distancing measures being observed often with one of us at the top of a ladder and another at the bottom! Next time you are passing on an essential trip or walking past on a health walk do admire it. |
