Macmillan Coffee Morning

18/10/2013

The Macmillan Coffee Morning was held today. It was brilliantly supported by all the Meths members and scores from the village besides raising an amazing £364. The collecting bucket was then taken up to the Gate public house where their weekend whip round realised a further £82. So a total of £446 is being sent to Macmillan for our efforts and shortly we should receive an official Thank you to all who supported us.

Concert success

11/10/2013

A well attended concert, in which the choir wowed the crowds with songs of love. It included some soloists and raised a total of £442 for the church funds. The choir presented their leader Jill with some flowers and commemorated their achievements with a witty well received poem which included comparing her piano playing to that is Les Dawson!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our concert tonight,
And trust we’ve managed to pitch it just right,
Songs of love were tonight’s theme
And at our age some of us can only dream.
We wish we could go back to when we were 64
When we had feeling in our fingers, toes and more!
When we could taste the honey and get drunk on the wine,

We’ve had music from The Beatles, & Gone with the wind,
Gilbert O’Sullivan, Elvis and Lloyd Webber,
Songs that will no doubt be around forever.
We’ve had solos, duets and the odd little verse,
For a couple of hours, it could’ve been worse

Now I’ve said it before Jill, but we think you are awesome
Especially when you play the piano like Les Dawson,
Like our singing it sometimes brings tears to your eyes
And in the immortal words of Morecambe and Wise
We hit all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

But joking apart, I hope you’ll agree
We are now singing in much greater harmony,
Its all down to you Jill for keeping us on track,
Especially sorting out the three at the back!!

So in appreciation for all your hard working hours
We’d like to present you with this bouquet of flowers.

October Coffee Morning

3/10/2013

A well attended coffee morning which was one of the first wet days after a lovely warm September. It also coincided virtually to the day with the centenary of the foundation stone being laid on October 4th 100 years previously. We collected £78 for Water Aid. This is the cost of a hand washing station at a school in Africa plus 500 sachets of oral rehydration salts. These replace the vital sugar, salt and minerals that children lose through diarrhoea and can be given at home without resort to a clinic. Many thanks for helping to save the lives of vulnerable people who have no choice but to drink water which is contaminated.

Foundation stone with 1913 date
It was the start of our centenary celebrations with the foundation stone being laid 100 years previously on the following day.
Did you go and have a look?
