Wintery Palm Sunday

24/3/2013

Despite the very snowy Sunday which heralded the early risers with yet more snow over night, the multi media Sunday was its usual success with over 15 hardy souls stomping through (or driving!) through the white stuff. Mike had once again done a sterling job clearing all the outside pathways and we even had some refugees from St. Giles church as well. The tea, coffee and cakes afterwards, helped us all brave the trip home.

Messy Church

23/3/2013

A good turn out of about 20 young people, despite or perhaps because of the snow which has once again come back to the village. The youngsters aged between 3 months and teenagers met at the church to find a number of activities laid out ready for their attention. Lots of complete items were made from the activities which ranged from hand painting and making them into Easter cards, bead bracelet making through to weaving paper into laminated place mats. Many were quick to comment on what a lovely afternoon they had enjoyed.

Switched on

8/3/2013

A healthy full house turned up to listen to the band. Switched on Swing played a lively set to an appreciative house who came away humming their reportoire. We raised £275 for which we thank the band which is available for parties, weddings and concerts - contact them on 01827 893428.

March Coffee Morning

7/3/2013

With the recent warmer spell we had a good number of people arrive to talk and chat their way through the morning. Even the little children were all together whilst playing or sleeping in lots of willing arms. Fiona and Mary did some lovely cakes and there was the usual raffle which all raised £70. No jokes this week but Jack is now out of hospital and we hope he has been saving them up for us. We raised a good amount for the MAF (mission aviation fellowship) who help in many areas of the world with aircraft access for missionaries and hospital treatments mainly in Africa and Asia.

Womens World day of prayer

1/3/2013

A well supported evening of about forty women including the choir members. Lynda Gascoigne lead the service and readings were given by members of the choir and from members of other local churches. The theme was to make strangers welcome and all presemt were encouraged to talk to someone they didn't know during refreshments after the service. The Chapel was decorated in French theme and Gill Noble gave a summary on the Christian women's work in France welcoming and supporting people who have arrived in France from other countries escaping persecution and poverty. More pictures would have been taken except the roving reporter was too busy being friendly to people!!

Whitacre Congregation is a vibrant mix of young and old who enjoy meeting for Sunday worship. Do come and join us.
