Eight teams each comprising of six people battled it out at the fish and chips quiz. The food was cooked and delivered by Atlanta fish shop at Kingsbury. Sausages and pies were an alternative but most enjoyed the fish deal. Tea, coffee and bread with butter was provided by Val and Colin, Susan and Malcolm and Christine. Vincent gave us a thought provoking quiz, too clever by half for some of us, but great fun! Many thanks to him and all the workers. Congratulations to the Pointers (friends and family) who were the victorious team and thanks to all who helped raise a profit of £138.

Find out more here As part of an ecumenical project to read the bible stories to young people in schools a group of readers have been trained many from our own congregation to deliver this programme in our local primary school. Shustoke is a C of E aided school and was one of the few in the area which was bereft of this programme. The first read happened today and was a great success judging from a few of the young people who were able to recount an outline of the event. Find out more about Open the Book here
With hurricane Ciara hitting the shores there was a limited attendance to church. However a number of us made it and the presentations went ahead to three of our collectors. Our thirteen collectors raised £130 in 2019 - thank you.
A beautifully bright and sunny morning encouraged a lot of us to venture out to meet up with our friends at our February coffee morning. We were raising money for Calibre Audio Library, a registered charity who bring the pleasure of reading to people with sight problems or disabilities that prevent them from reading print. This charity was suggested to us by Dick Dale, one of our regular coffee morning attendees, who has benefited enormously from enjoying the numerous audio books delivered to him by Calibre. It was a privilege to hear Dick tell us about the pleasure he has derived from this service since losing the vision needed to read.
A great turnout, lots of chatter, a table full of donated raffle prizes and coffee and cake. Not a bad way to spend a Thursday morning in February.....and the result? £135 raised for Calibre Audio Library which will will help this charity widen their provision even further. Thanks to Lynda and Jill for hosting today and to all our helpers and attendees. |
