The theme of this years Women's World Day of Prayer was "God's Creation is very good." The service was written by the women of Suriname, a country in South America, which has 94% forest land. It is home to the blue frog and the great turtle. Our leader, Linda Comfort, urged us not to damage our environment and we were encouraged to recycle and reuse our waste. In the church there were examples of art work from different countries. Items such as coaster made from ring pulls from the Philippines, decorative boats made from newspapers from Vietnam and decorative mats made from bottle tops from Uganda.
We were fortunate to be joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Warwickshire, Mr and Mrs T Waters, who along with about 50 other people enjoyed the service. The choir led the singing and afterwards we sampled peanut fudge and coconut macaroons which Anne and Fiona had baked from Suriname recipes. Many thanks to Will for the wonderful decorations, which included a display of the animals linked to Suriname and their flag which was painted by the children in the church for the event.
