Many children under ten who have been involved in our Messy Church events have recently received a copy of a small Christmas booklet which contains stories and colouring. The booklet has been adapted from "The Rhyming Bible" and issued through the bible society. The chapel hopes that the children enjoy following the journey of the nativity in glorious rhyme leading to God's Christmas present being born in Bethlehem.  the Methodist Schoolroom was awash with paint, glue, cardboard and masses of glitter and most important of all, a crowd of happy Children. Snowmen were made using polystyrene balls, Angels and gift-tags painted, created felt and button Christmas trees created and both stockings and large stars were decorated. Then Jackie and our Minister, Farai took the children into the Chapel to talk about the Birth in Bethlehem. The event ended, as it always does with sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and crisps. We hope everyone enjoyed the occasion as much as we did. Our thanks to all the helpers who are always so kind and enthusiastic. A happy Christmas to everyone. A group of eager children could be seen running along Cottage Lane in warm sunshine towards the Playground on Birmingham Road. Following them, at a more leisurely pace, were a group from the Methodist Chapel carrying all the equipment needed for a mini Olympics.
The afternoon was great fun. The children ran, hopped, threw and shouted for a couple of hours before enjoying tea back in the Chapel. All the old competitions were revisited. We ran with eggs on spoons, we threw wellies, laughed a lot as the children fell about doing the three-legged race and passions were high when we played the Chocolate game The sun shone all afternoon and a good time was had by all. What fun it was, two hours without a mobile phone in sight! We hope to see you all at the Chapel at our Christmas event. A smaller group of young people met today to create Easter themed items. Eighteen children and their families joined us for a Messy Christmas. The children made cards, Christmas stockings, Pomanders, tree decorations, lovely Santa Claus badges and even “Donkey Dung” from the stable of Jesus! Our Minister, Farai, entertained the children with the Christmas story. We had a really happy time and hope that our guests enjoyed it too. How good it was to see adults and children busy creating decorative things. Our thanks go to the helpers who manned tables. Items created were then taken home. A busy and well supported afternoon of fun and stories encouraging the children to make harvest busy hour of creating Scarecrows, Hedgehogs, Foxes and Birdfeeders, and Bread. Rev Farai Mapamula read a story about the importance of sharing to the group who could not use the church as it is in the middle of being redecorated. We then tucked into sandwiches and cakes. A happy time was had by all. A big thank you to everyone who helped so willingly. The Methodist Messy Church Team were very pleased to welcome 20 children, their parents and some grandparents to an Easter Egg Hunt. The children made and decorated Easter Baskets and then were let loose to find tokens that they could exchange for chocolate eggs. The weather was kind to us so that we were able to use the garden and the Chapel. While some cleared up for Tea, Jacky told the children the amazing Easter story. We hope that everyone enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did, everything seems brighter if it involves chocolate, doesn’t it?
Please pencil the date of Saturday, July 28th in your diaries because we would love to invite you to a Picnic in the Park on Birmingham Road. Let’s hope that the sun will shine for us. The now familiar popular messy church was well attended by twenty children of all ages. They made festive items ranging from sewing up Christmas decorations, card baubles, Christmas trees and snowmen faces and Christmas biscuits. Jackie read the stories before the tea. Thank you to all our supporters. With the mid morning rain the event was transferred to the chapel grounds and in the hall as the playing field was rather wet and slippy. This did not stop a wide range of kids joining us for lots of silly games and events and even a few adults made their mark too. The children played games, like " Port andStarboard" and " Stick in the Mud". The weather cheered up and we went into the garden for cheerful races like the Obstacle Race and Egg and Spoon. Finally we had "Throw the Wellie" which was most amusing. The Bible story was about the feeding of the five thousand and then tea and cakes made a good re-enactment of the story! What a way to start the summer holidays. Our next Messy church will be near to Christmas.
Today our Messy church was about Palm Sunday when the bible tells us Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The children were encouraged to create donkeys and also the many other animals that we associate with Easter starting with chicks, ducks and bunnies. Biscuits and cards were made and even Easter bunnies and eggs were painted on faces. Over twenty children attended and were rewarded after their creativity with a short story by our very own Rev Farai and then refreshments before going home. |
