Our traditional candle lit carol service was led by Rev Nick Jones and consisted of carols sung by both the choir and the congregation along with a series of bible and other readings to reflect the Christmas story. Afterwards mince pies, tea and coffee along with a pre Christmas chat was indulged in by those who attended. Our thanks to all our readers and the choir. Todays service led by Jill included a new carol written by Marjorie Evans of Solihull especially for Nether Whitacre. Marjorie used to be a very regular lay preacher at our chapel and it was a pleasure to sing these verses today. Sung to the a common metre tune such as St Anne (O God our help in ages past) but we sang it to St Fulbert (Fill thou my life)
This Christmas as we meet to sing And give thanks for Christ's birth, We'll think again about the role That we should play on earth. A time of love, togetherness, Of joy, forgiveness, peace. A time of prayer and thankfulness The hope all strife will cease. But above all this Christmas We'll pray Christ comes again And praise, endure and carry on Until He comes to reign. copyright Marjorie Evans 2022 Pauline led our service of Remembrance reminding us of all those is uniform who support and fight for our country. The church had some lovely decorations and Lynda was in her original 1939 ATF uniform in memory of her father.
Been a bit of a week for birthdays with a number of cards being handed out. However after Fiona had led our worship we all celebrated Janes special birthday with a cake enjoyed with our tea and coffee after church.
Today our service led by Anne and Mike Pointer celebrated the work of JMA - Junior Mission for All. Many of our collectors were present some now with quite substantial strings of collection to their names. Many thanks to our ten collectors who raised £52.67
Today after a lovely service led by Fiona Beadle we had our postponed Harvest celebration. Originally due on the day of our late Queens funeral we altered the format to a bring and share lunch after our morning service. A lovely spread was ready complete with puddings and we all sat down to have a very convivial meal. Even our own minster Rev. Nick dropped in on his way home.
Today was our Harvest celebration. Both of our services were led by our own minister Rev Nick Jones. The morning service reminded us to not worry about all the things in life which might never happen and to trust in the way we are provided for as well as singing a number of traditional harvest hymns. The evening songs of praise service was joined by the choir and the hymns were a mix of newer and traditional ones along with Nick reminding us of the beauty of the morning skies relating to the hymn "Christ whose glory fills the skies" by Charles Wesley. This was followed by the hymn "Lead kindly light amid the encircling gloom" which linked his dog walking early morning exercises to Cardinal Newman who is buried on Cofton Hill near to where he walks. After the service we had tea and coffee. As it is the eve of the State Funeral of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth we returned to the chapel for short prayer and two minutes of national silence at 8pm. Followed by the national anthem "God Save the King", many singing this for the first time. Requiescet in pace
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022 An early harvest service today lead by Pauline. She gave us lots of facts about artichokes and how sharing our fruits, flowers and vegetables helped our neighbours and showed our care for others. We were also entertained by two local farmers called Silas and Amos who sang a short well known ditty to us all. The chapel does not see many wedding so they are an event in themselves. Congratulations to Joe and Matthew who were married at our chapel today becoming one of the first same sex weddings to take place in the Birmingham Circuit. We wish them a long and happy life together. What a lovely day almost too warm to go for a walk. A fewer in number still totalling about eleven, braved the route keeping to the shade wherever possible. We returned to find Phil still braving the BBQ and had cooked the burgers and sausage repast for us. Later the Rev Peter Bates led all of us in our evening service reminding us of the purpose of Sundays and if they are to spent doing nothing or with more careful purpose.
