We met today to raise £219 for our own chapel. There were some cakes to celebrate a 50th birthday for Helen this week and an 80th birthday a little later on for her mum Hazel. We met this morning to raise £140 for UK Breast Cancer. Some people were put off by the weather and others are still struck down with the winter flu bug but they gave money to support the charity and several of the ladies present have received treatment for this disease and know how important research is.
Thanks to Jacky, Jane and Alison who provided the cakes and service . After a very slow start (we thought the awful weather had put people off) we ended up with around 38 attendees, and made £249 for Coventry Open Christmas; a homeless charity,
Today we met to raise £241.50 for Action for Children who provide long-term, stable support to children and young people. They also help run vital community services that local authorities can’t fund. A good number of people came and supported the morning thank you.
A good crowd turned up for coffee morning today which raised £261 for the National Autistic Society. Elizabeth and Hazel were the hostesses. So many people are now diagnosed with Autism that we received donations from those who were unable to attend, but wanted to support the charity. It was lovely to have Hazel’s daughter-in-law and grandchildren with us. Little Oliver was very tired but no trouble. His christening is coming shortly and we are glad he is making progress. Ruby had looked out some tactile toys so we could all experience the importance of touch and appreciate their value to those less able to express themselves verbally. Nobody wanted to go home after a lovely morning chatting.
A lovely sunny day saw us meet to raise money for our own chapel. It was busy with people and the raffle was closely followed with prizes all around. In addition to the raffle there was an abundance of vegetables from our gardens which were appreciated with many taking bags away with them. The cakes of course were enjoyed and a total of £240 was raised.
A late start, but a good crowd. Christine, Vincent, Val, Colin, Sue and Malcolm hosted this month’s coffee morning raising a record £205.50 for Queen Victoria's Seafarers Rest (QVSR). This is a Methodist society that helps up to former seafarers in their care and retirement offering a total of up to 175 formal car home places in Poplar and a number of other centres at several major ports. The tables looked lovely decorated with flowers and there were lots of raffle prizes to be won. See you next month.
The May coffee morning was held to support Christian Aid and many people were encouraged to gift aid their donation so they are able to be gift aided so that they can support even more people. The cakes combined with the tea and coffee led to a good attendance and £300 is ready to be forwarded to Christian Aid.
